The Problem

Our Reason Why

Every year, thousands of individuals and families in the United States face housing instability due to domestic violence and aging out of the foster care system.

For survivors of domestic violence, leaving an abusive environment often means leaving their homes, belongings, and financial stability behind. Many are forced to rely on temporary shelters that are overcrowded and designed only for short-term stays.

At the same time, thousands of young adults age out of the foster care system each year without permanent families or stable housing. More than 20,000 youth age out of foster care annually, often transitioning into adulthood without a support network.

Without safe housing, many of these young adults struggle to find stability. Studies show that 20–25% of youth who age out of foster care experience homelessness within a few years, and many face barriers to employment, education, and long-term independence.

Across the country, millions of young people experience homelessness each year, many after leaving unsafe homes or aging out of care systems designed to protect them.

For families and young adults who have experienced trauma, stable housing is not just shelter—it is the foundation for healing, safety, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Welcome to the Awakening House

Awakening House – Our Housing Vision

At The Awakening Center, we envision a future where survivors of domestic violence and young adults transitioning out of foster care have access to safe, stable housing and the supportive environments needed to rebuild their lives with confidence and dignity.

Our vision is to create communities where individuals and families who have experienced trauma are not defined by their past circumstances, but are empowered to move forward with renewed hope and opportunity. We believe that healing begins in spaces where people feel secure, supported, and valued. By developing housing initiatives that prioritize safety, privacy, and stability, we aim to create environments where survivors and young adults can begin their journey toward independence and long-term success.

Through initiatives like Awakening House, The Awakening Center seeks to establish housing communities designed specifically to meet the needs of those recovering from domestic violence and those aging out of foster care. These communities will offer more than shelter—they will provide a foundation for healing, personal growth, and stability. Residents will have access to supportive services, community resources, and guidance designed to help them rebuild their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.

Our vision also extends beyond housing. The Awakening Center strives to become a catalyst for change within communities by raising awareness about the challenges faced by survivors and foster youth while promoting solutions that address housing instability and long-term recovery. Through partnerships, advocacy, and community engagement, we aim to contribute to a future where safe housing and supportive services are accessible to those who need them most.

Ultimately, The Awakening Center envisions a world where every survivor and young adult has the opportunity to live in a safe environment, pursue personal growth, and build a stable and fulfilling future. By creating spaces of safety, compassion, and opportunity, we hope to inspire transformation not only for individuals and families, but for entire communities.
